McLaren has unveiled its 2024 Formula 1 vehicle, the MCL38, which means that only Mercedes, Red Bull, and Williams have yet to introduce their cars before pre-season testing.
Last month, McLaren surprised everyone by revealing its 2024 livery, but today they officially unveiled their 2024 challenger.
Later today, the MCL38 will have its first on-track running during a filming day at Silverstone.
This launch follows Aston Martin and Ferrari, and precedes the final two launches of Mercedes and Red Bull, making it a busy week for car reveals.
Over the past year, McLaren has made significant progress, going from a terrible start in 2023 to becoming one of Red Bull’s main competitors for two-thirds of the season. This turnaround was achieved under the leadership of first-time team boss Andrea Stella.
McLaren’s technical team has also seen important additions, with Rob Marshall (formerly of Red Bull) and David Sanchez (formerly of Ferrari) joining on January 1. The 2024 car is the first to benefit from McLaren’s new wind tunnel.
In terms of drivers, Lando Norris has committed his future to McLaren by signing a long-term contract that will keep him with the team until at least the end of 2026.
His teammate, Oscar Piastri, also has a multi-year deal and will remain with McLaren until 2026 at the earliest.
With McLaren revealing their car, only Williams (who launched their livery on February 5 and will shakedown their car on February 20), Mercedes (launching later today), and Red Bull (launching tomorrow) are yet to showcase their 2024 cars.
