Lewis Hamilton, a British driver for Mercedes AMG, is seen on the grid during the Formula 1 World Championship in Saudi Arabia. According to reports, Simone Resta, who previously served as Ferrari’s Chief Designer, will join Mercedes as Strategic Development Director, working alongside Technical Director James Allison. Resta had been with Ferrari since 2001 and also had a stint as the Technical Director for Alfa Romeo. Enrico Sampo, Ferrari’s Driver Simulator Team Leader, will also be joining Mercedes as Head of Performance Software. However, both Resta and Sampo will have to wait until 2025 to start their new roles due to their gardening leave obligations. This move between Ferrari and Mercedes comes at a time when Ferrari has been actively recruiting talent from other teams on the grid. In preparation for the regulation changes in 2026, Mercedes has secured long-term contracts with Team Principal Toto Wolff and Technical Director James Allison. Additionally, David Nelson has been appointed as the new Senior Vehicle Dynamicist, replacing Loic Serra as Performance Director.
