Experienced MLB journalist Jon Morosi finds himself in an embarrassing situation.
On Friday afternoon, Morosi gained widespread attention when he announced that Ohtani was on a plane bound for Toronto, just days after suggesting that the Blue Jays were a plausible destination for the talented player.
Sources have indicated that Shohei Ohtani is currently en route to Toronto.
When questioned about Ohtani’s travel plans, a representative from his agency, CAA, declined to comment.
As of now, Ohtani has not signed an agreement with any MLB team.
Several other MLB reporters, including Bob Nightengale, quickly disputed Morosi’s report on various social media platforms. It was later revealed that the private plane in question was carrying Robert Herjavec from Shark Tank, not Ohtani.
Bob Nightengale confirmed that Shohei Ohtani is NOT in Toronto. He is NOT on a flight to Toronto. Ohtani is currently at home in Southern California.
Our CBC photographer Evan Mitsui, who is currently at Pearson Airport, has confirmed that Ohtani was NOT on the private jet. Instead, it was transporting Canadian businessman Robert Herjavec and his family.
Following the backlash he received on social media due to his false report, Morosi took to his Twitter/X page to issue an apology.
“Earlier today, I shared information that inaccurately stated that Shohei Ohtani was traveling to Toronto. I deeply regret this error and apologize to baseball fans worldwide. I am truly sorry for disappointing you.”
