After an absence of almost three years from competitive combat sports, Paige VanZant is on the verge of making a comeback. VanZant, who hasn’t participated in a fight since July 2021, now has a fight lined up with a confirmed date, location, and opponent. The gloves are about to come back on.
During an episode of the “The Kickass Love Story” podcast, VanZant shared the news of her upcoming boxing match. Although she hasn’t signed the contract yet, she enthusiastically accepted the fight offer. Initially, the proposed date was March 23, which coincided perfectly with her turning 30 on March 26. VanZant eagerly agreed, stating that she was excited about the opportunity and the chance to have one more fight before hitting the milestone age. The prospect of an eight-week training camp also appealed to her, as it meant she wouldn’t have too much time to stress or overthink the upcoming bout.
However, the date was later changed to either May or June, which VanZant mentioned without disclosing the specific details of the event, opponent, or location. What she did reveal was that the fight would involve gloves, marking a departure from her previous experiences in bareknuckle boxing for BKFC. Despite not having much professional experience in gloved boxing, VanZant embraced the opportunity and expressed her excitement for the upcoming challenge.
VanZant’s rise to fame began with her nine appearances in the UFC from 2014 to 2020. After fulfilling her contract with the promotion, she decided to join BKFC in 2021. Unfortunately, her two outings in bareknuckle boxing ended in unanimous defeats against Britain Hart and Rachael Ostovich. Although she had scheduled fights with Charisa Sigala in the latter half of 2022, they were ultimately canceled due to VanZant’s withdrawal.
In addition to her combat sports endeavors, VanZant also dabbled in professional wrestling with AEW from September 2021 to May 2022.
