Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, and his spouse, Brittany, met with individuals affected by the shooting that took place after the team’s Super Bowl parade. As reported by the Daily Mail, the Mahomes visited Children’s Mercy Hospital, where they spent time with two young girls who are related to Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a mother and radio host who tragically lost her life during the incident. Melia, 8, and Madison, 10, the sisters who were present at the parade with their mother, Erika Reyes, sustained gunshot wounds to their legs. Reyes is a cousin of Lopez-Galvan. Fortunately, both girls underwent surgery and are expected to fully recover. Heartwarming photos from the hospital capture the Mahomes with the girls, who can be seen smiling while holding miniature Chiefs helmets.
The Reyes family expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers during this challenging time. They mentioned that their daughters, aged 8 and 10, are making positive progress in their recovery from the leg injuries. The girls underwent surgery and will be in casts for several months. The family, along with other affected families, is still in the process of healing physically and emotionally.
Efforts to assist the victims and their families following this tragedy are already in motion. The Chiefs have partnered with the United Way of Greater Kansas City to establish a dedicated emergency fund. The fund has already received over $388,000 in donations. The campaign’s webpage reveals that $200,000 was contributed by “The Chiefs, Hunt Family Foundation, & NFL,” while an additional $50,000 came from “Patrick, Brittany & the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation.” This collaborative initiative aims to provide support and aid to those affected by the incident.
Recently, the police announced that two juveniles have been charged in connection with the incident.
