The FIA World Endurance Championship has announced the Balance of Performance measures for the third round of the 2024 season, the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, with Peugeot remaining as the heaviest Hypercar.
In the race on 11 May, Peugeot will participate with their latest 9X8 Le Mans Hypercar, which has undergone changes to its aerodynamics and wheel sizes.
Due to the scheduling conflict with the FIA Formula E World Championship round in Berlin, both of Peugeot’s #93 and #94 Hypercars will be driven by only two drivers each.
After a challenging debut for the new car at Imola, which included an incident caused by another competitor on Lap 1, Peugeot is now focused on achieving a more promising result for the 9X8 despite its weight disadvantage.
Peugeot’s weight has been increased by 4 kg to 1065 kg, while the maximum power output of their twin-turbo 2.6L V6 hybrid electric powertrain has been reduced by 2 Kilowatts (kW) to 508 kW (690 hp).
Additionally, their maximum energy per stint has been raised by 4 Megajoules (MJ) to 910 MJ.
Following their strong performance at Imola, Ferrari has received the highest weight increase among the teams. They now weigh 1053 kg, with a power output of 506 kW (687 hp) and a maximum stint energy of 905 MJ.
Porsche’s 963 LMDh has been increased by 4 kg to 1037 kg, with a power output of 507 kW (689 hp). Their maximum stint energy has been raised by 3 MJ to 904 MJ.
Toyota’s GR010 Hybrid, after their victory at Imola, also faces a weight increase of 4 kg to 1064 kg, a power output reduction of 1 kW to 515 kW (700 hp), and a maximum stint energy of 917 MJ after a 1 MJ increase.
Alpine and their A424 LMDh will run with a weight reduction of 3 kg compared to Imola, weighing 1045 kg. Their power output has increased by 1 kW to 513 kW (697 hp) in total, and they have the largest increase in maximum stint energy among their competitors, now at 913 MJ after a 4 MJ increase.
BMW will enter their third WEC race with their M Hybrid V8 LMDh, weighing 3 kg more at 1038 kg. The power output is 510 kW (693 hp) after a 1 kW decrease, and the maximum stint energy is 907 MJ after a 2 MJ increase.
Cadillac will be the only Hypercar to maintain the same weight at 1030 kg, making them the lightest in the class.
Their #2 V-Series.R LMDh has received a power increase of 1 kW to 516 kW (701 hp), making it the second-most powerful Hypercar. They have a maximum stint energy of 909 MJ after a reduction of 1 MJ.
Isotta Fraschini’s Tipo 6-C LMH remains the most powerful with 520 kW (707 hp), while their weight has increased by 2 kg to 1060 kg. They also have the highest maximum stint energy at 923 MJ after a 3 MJ increase.
The Lamborghini Iron Lynx, the only Hypercar running as a single-car entry, will weigh 1035 kg after a 1 kg increase. It has an output of 514 kW (698 hp) after a 2 kW reduction, and the same 908 MJ of maximum energy per stint.
