McLaren’s Oscar Piastri finished the Friday practice day at the Japanese Grand Prix on top, as rain limited running in the second practice session. The light rain at Suzuka made the track conditions too wet for slick tires and too dry for intermediate tires for much of the session. Piastri, along with a few other drivers, ventured out on intermediate tires, resulting in an unusual RB 1-2 on the timesheet. However, as the track dried out towards the end of the session, Piastri set the fastest lap time on slick tires, followed by Lewis Hamilton in second place. Charles Leclerc secured third place, while Yuki Tsunoda dropped to fourth. Logan Sargeant did not participate in the session due to significant damage to his car from a crash in FP1.
