“We believe that Red Bull can definitely be defeated,” stated the British individual, who recently joined Aston Martin after working in the aerodynamics department at Red Bull. During a video conference with journalists, they emphasized their focus on surpassing Red Bull and making them their primary target.
Last year, Red Bull achieved an unprecedented feat by winning 21 out of 22 races, with Max Verstappen securing his third consecutive drivers’ championship in a season marked by their dominance. Aston Martin, powered by Mercedes, finished fifth overall in the standings, emerging as Red Bull’s closest competitors in the initial races. Notably, double F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso graced the podium four times in the first five races.
Upon hearing Fallows’s statement, Alonso expressed his satisfaction, stating, “It’s encouraging to hear him say that. It brought a smile to my face… It’s important for us to maintain optimism at this stage of the season. We should aim to consistently score points, just as we did last year, and then strive for podium finishes. If we find ourselves in that position, it would be wonderful to secure Aston Martin’s first victory in their iconic green color, and hopefully, I’ll be the one behind the wheel when that moment arrives.”
When asked about the possibility of defeating Red Bull over the course of an entire season, rather than just in individual races, Fallows acknowledged that Red Bull currently sets the performance benchmark. From an engineering perspective, their focus is on developing a car that can compete at any circuit and deliver consistent results, rather than solely targeting specific races.
Aston Martin’s new F1 car, presented in their signature racing green livery, is the first product to come out of their new Silverstone factory. The unveiling coincided with the launch of Aston Martin’s new Vantage road car and Vantage GT3 racer. The car features a completely redesigned chassis, nose, front wing, and suspension, with the aim of creating a more versatile vehicle that can be further developed throughout the season.
Fallows expressed satisfaction with the progress made over the winter, stating that they believe the new car is a significant improvement over its predecessor. Describing it as a “strong evolution,” Fallows emphasized their commitment to continuous development and improvement.
Team principal Mike Krack praised the team’s two exceptional drivers, Alonso and Lance Stroll, who is also the son of team owner Lawrence Stroll. With both drivers fully integrated into the team, Aston Martin is eagerly looking forward to the start of the season in Bahrain on March 2. (Reported by Alan Baldwin)
