The RB20 is set to be officially revealed to the world on Thursday, February 15th, but pictures of the new car have been circulating on social media after an early outing at Silverstone. This outing appeared to be part of a filming day where the RB20 was filmed alongside the team’s first F1 car, the RB1. The RB20 will succeed the highly successful RB19, which won 21 out of 22 races in 2023, with Max Verstappen claiming 19 victories and Sergio Perez securing 2 wins. The only non-Red Bull victory was achieved by Carlos Sainz at the Singapore Grand Prix for Ferrari.
Despite doubts about Red Bull’s ability to maintain their performance with the introduction of ground effect regulations in their third year, the images of the RB20 reveal interesting developments in the design of the engine cover. The cover adopts a Mercedes-like design for the gulleys that run along its entire length. However, the RB20 is still an evolution of the concept introduced by Red Bull in 2022 in response to the ground effect rules. Adrian Newey, the team’s design guru, confirmed this in an episode of the Talking Bulls.
While Red Bull prepares for the launch event of the RB20 and their 2024 F1 Title-defending campaign, their plans have been overshadowed by an investigation into their boss Christian Horner. Horner is facing allegations of inappropriate behavior towards a female employee, and Red Bull (the parent company) has initiated an internal investigation that is currently ongoing.
