Max Verstappen’s Australian Grand Prix came to an abrupt end due to a brake failure in his car. However, it has been made clear by brake supplier Brembo that Red Bull is responsible for this issue.
The race was a disappointment for the reigning world champion as he was on track to match his world record for ten consecutive race wins. Unfortunately, a brake failure caused Verstappen’s brakes to burn, forcing him to retire on the third lap. This incident has led to criticism towards Red Bull’s brake supplier, Brembo.
Verstappen’s RB20 car was equipped with another engine for the race. However, the braking issues were present from the very beginning, as indicated by the data. Brembo released a public statement denying any responsibility for the incident. The company stated that the issues faced by Verstappen and others were not caused by any faults in Brembo components.
Furthermore, Brembo emphasized that the issues in both cases were a result of the incorrect choice of configuration for the car. Therefore, the Italian manufacturer had no direct involvement in either incident. As a result, Red Bull will need to investigate the braking issues and take measures to prevent their recurrence in future races.
Verstappen took to social media to express his disappointment about the unexpected retirement from the Australian Grand Prix. He mentioned feeling “gutted” by the whole ordeal. However, he acknowledged that such incidents are part of racing in Formula 1. The three-time world champion and his team are now looking forward to the next race.
Despite the disappointing end to the Australian Grand Prix, Verstappen had previously mentioned that the start of the season had been one of the best so far. He praised the balance of the car and the team’s performance with minimal mistakes. Therefore, the 26-year-old is satisfied with his prospects at Red Bull and will continue racing for the team.
Additionally, Red Bull’s dominant RB20 chassis provided a smooth ride for the drivers during the race weekend. This gives the team confidence that they will return to their winning ways in the Japanese Grand Prix. Verstappen has also promised to bounce back from the disappointing weekend in the upcoming race.
