In the opening half of Leeds United’s 2-0 triumph over Plymouth Argyle, Adam Pope heavily criticized Wilfried Gnonto for his failure to remain in an onside position during a crucial opportunity.
The assistant referee raised his flag belatedly in the initial half, resulting in the disallowance of Ashley Phillips’ own goal.
The Italian national skillfully played the ball towards the center, but due to his positioning error, the goal was ultimately deemed invalid.
“Wilfried Gnonto’s offside position is truly unacceptable,” Pope expressed during his commentary on BBC Radio Leeds.
“Despite his protestations, he had a clear view of the offside line. He delivered an exceptional pass, which was expertly finished by Plymouth’s towering center-back, Phillips.”
The 20-year-old has been in exceptional form as of late for Leeds United, netting five goals in his last five appearances for the club, contributing significantly to their impressive streak of eight consecutive league victories.
