PREMA, a prominent force in European formula racing, has recently revealed its plans to venture into the NTT IndyCar Series in the coming year. The Italian team will establish a base in Indiana and enter the 2025 season with two cars powered by Chevrolet. This move comes after years of careful consideration and discussions with IndyCar management. Team Principal Rene Rosin expressed the team’s desire to explore new horizons after four decades of successful competition in Europe. He sees IndyCar as a great challenge and an opportunity to expand their business on a global scale. The team aims to be a protagonist in the series and has chosen 2025 as the ideal time to embark on this new adventure.
While PREMA is still in the process of finalizing key details, such as the driver lineup, Rosin stated that he prefers a combination of a seasoned driver and a rookie. However, he is open to the possibility of fielding two rookies if they prove to be the best option. Additionally, the team is considering a technical partnership with an established IndyCar outfit to enhance their operations. As they continue to assess their requirements, they remain open to all possibilities and will carefully evaluate each opportunity before making a decision.
With the potential addition of PREMA, the number of full-time IndyCar entries for the next season could increase to 29, adding even more competition to an already fiercely contested series. As PREMA starts from scratch to establish its American presence, they have less than a year to develop their program before the anticipated start of the 2025 season in early March.
