Roy Keane took a swipe at Gary Neville in the Sky Sports Studio for presenting Harry Maguire with the Man of the Match accolade against Aston Villa.
Despite Keane’s criticism, Manchester United secured their third consecutive victory, with Scott McTominay netting a late winner after coming off the bench for Erik ten Hag’s team.
Following Lisandro Martinez’s injury, Maguire returned to the lineup and formed a partnership with Raphael Varane in the heart of the defense. Neville made the decision to award Maguire the Man of the Match honor, which was handed to him by the opening goalscorer, Rasmus Hojlund. However, Keane disagreed with this choice.
In the Sky Sports studio, Roy Keane suggested that Gary Neville bestowed the Man of the Match title upon Harry Maguire because he is a member of the ‘defenders union’.
He explained: “I thought he did alright today, obviously some individuals give defenders the Man of the Match award because they’ve been defenders themselves – that kind of situation. It was definitely going to be a defender.”
The Irishman further hinted at the numerous opportunities Aston Villa created but ultimately failed to convert.
Up next for Manchester United is a visit to Luton Town next Sunday as they strive to maintain their impressive form. They’ll be eager for the clash considering Luton’s defeat over the weekend.
