George Russell of Mercedes AMG F1 celebrated his third-place finish in qualifying parc ferme at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Despite trailing just two-tenths behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton, Russell secured a surprise second-row start. The team made set-up changes that led to improvements in their qualifying pace, catching them off guard. The competition was extremely tight, with only two-tenths separating second and eighth place. Russell hopes that the changes made for qualifying won’t hinder their race pace. The cooler temperatures in Bahrain this week have not necessarily benefited Mercedes, as they historically struggle in these conditions. However, Russell is feeling confident in the car and is excited for the race. He expects a close battle with the Ferraris and Sergio Perez for the second and third podium spots. Max Verstappen is currently leading the pack with an incredible performance.
