Ryan Blaney recently expressed his worries about the new generation of cars in NASCAR. The Daytona 500 and Atlanta Cup race, which kicked off the 2024 season, deviated from the norm by not witnessing any major wrecks. Blaney believes this is due to the lack of a third lane in the Next-Gen cars, making it difficult for drivers to make a comeback and reducing the chances of wrecks. In the past, even drivers in 20th position could take advantage of wrecks to secure a better finish, but that is no longer possible. As a skilled Superspeedway racer, Blaney’s concerns should not be ignored. While clean races are good, the absence of the risk factor that makes this style of racing unique is not ideal for the sport. Blaney argues that the top three drivers now dominate the race, leaving little room for those below to influence the outcome. Despite his concerns, Blaney remains focused on ending his winless streak and securing a playoff spot to defend his Cup title.
