The incident occurred when Piastri pushed Sainz wide at Turn 11, but it was at Turn 17 on Lap 39 where the collision took place. Piastri had to pit for repairs and finished outside the points in 13th, while Sainz continued and finished in fourth place. The stewards reviewed video evidence and concluded that Sainz was predominantly to blame for the collision. They noted that Sainz braked late, missed the apex, and lost control of the rear, resulting in the collision. However, they also acknowledged that Piastri had given sufficient room for the overtake attempt.
