Fox Sports has been facing criticism recently for their coverage of NASCAR races. Over the past two years, fans of the sport have been unhappy with the decline in the quality of race coverage provided by Fox Sport. Throughout the 2023 season, Fox received significant backlash for their poor direction of race coverage and excessive advertisement breaks during the races.
Despite the addition of a retired NASCAR driver to their broadcasting team in 2024, the coverage of the Dayton 500 weekend received substantial criticism. Multiple race-changing moments were missed, and the issue of excessive advertisement breaks persisted. Now, Fox Sports finds themselves in another controversy, this time with the largest fan base in NASCAR, the fans.
A recent exclusive interview with the 2022 Cup champion was conducted by Fox Sports and broadcasted on FS1. However, an editing error in the interview caught the attention of one Elliott fan and caused a stir on social media. During a discussion about his wins, a video compilation of the No:9 Chevy driver’s victory at Dover was shown.
The video included four different clips. The first clip showed the No:9 car driving around the track, followed by the No:9 crew celebrating the win, Elliott celebrating inside the car, and the driver waving the checkered flag at the end. However, the in-car footage that was shown was actually of Ty Dillon celebrating a stage win. This was noticeable because Dillon’s car fire suit had a different sponsor than Elliott’s NAPA.
Elliott fans were pleased with the mistake and quickly expressed their dissatisfaction with the broadcaster. They took the opportunity to criticize the average performance of Fox’s race broadcasts director over the past few seasons. Some fans used harsh words in their criticism, while others were not surprised by the error, as it was nothing new to them. Ultimately, it may have been a genuine mistake by the editor, but considering Fox’s negative reputation within the NASCAR community, more efforts could have been made to address this issue.
I am speechless at this point. I am no longer surprised. The NASCARONFOX team is terrible and brings shame to the sport.
This is why editing deserves an Oscar. 😅
Mediocre Fox quality
That’s a clear indication of how poorly FOX handles production 😂
Isn’t that because Ty Dillon is the successor to Jeff Gordon?
GOAT Dillon > Chase Elliott
