The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League is expected to host future Formula E races, replacing the current venue at the London ExCeL Arena. The ExCeL Arena has limited space for expansion, making it unsuitable for the needs of Formula E. The championship is now looking to include a mix of large-scale city center tracks and permanent or modified permanent facilities in its schedule. Silverstone has emerged as a favorite for hosting a UK race, with talks becoming more extensive in recent months. Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds believes that circuits that are great for motorbikes can also create exciting races for Formula E cars. However, the decision to move away from the fan-friendly and sustainable environment of the ExCeL Arena may be difficult to understand. Despite its constraints, the ExCeL circuit provided unique and enjoyable races, although overtaking opportunities were limited. Formula E is searching for tracks that can deliver both a big event and a perfect circuit for its cars. Monaco and Sao Paulo are examples of tracks that meet both criteria, while Mexico City only ticks the former. The challenge for Formula E at Silverstone would be to create a unique and bespoke circuit that sets it apart from other races held at permanent facilities. Some drivers and teams prefer street circuits, as they offer more opportunities for exciting races and showcase the capabilities of the drivers. However, with the introduction of the Gen3Evo next season, which promises faster lap times, traditional circuits may also become suitable for Formula E races. Despite differing opinions, Formula E is likely to continue including a mix of street circuits and permanent facilities in its calendar for the foreseeable future.
