The 25-year-old Canadian, who is the son of a wealthy team owner, arrived at the first race of the 2023 season in Bahrain with injuries to his foot and wrists from a cycling accident in Spain two weeks prior. This year, Stroll took more precautions and today he tested the newly unveiled Aston Martin AMR24 at Silverstone during the team’s designated filming day.
When asked about his training preparations for the upcoming season, Stroll jokingly mentioned that his apartment is filled with cushions and he is not allowed to leave. He also shared, “I am running and being cautious of my steps to avoid any ankle injuries. I am solely focused on running in a straight line and taking care of my body to be ready for the Bahrain testing this year.”
Despite his claims, photographs on social media showed Stroll snowboarding in a forest in January, indicating a different story. Stroll clarified, “I did take some time off to relax with friends and family, indulging in more treats and drinks. However, I continued my rigorous training and now I am fully prepared to return to racing.”
In addition to skiing in Western Canada, Stroll revealed that he spent a significant amount of time reflecting on the previous season and strategizing on how to improve. His experienced teammate, Fernando Alonso, achieved eight podium finishes and secured fourth place overall with 206 points, while Stroll finished 10th with only 74 points.
Acknowledging his teammate’s superior performance, Stroll admitted, “Last year, he was simply faster. I have identified areas where I need to improve and I have plans in place to work on them. We faced numerous challenges and unfortunate technical issues throughout the season, hindering our progress.”
Stroll emphasized the importance of testing to understand the car’s performance, stating, “Attending testing this year will undoubtedly be beneficial. Having two healthy wrists will make my life easier in the race car.” This year marks Stroll’s eighth season in Formula 1, and the Bahrain Grand Prix will be his 144th GP start.
