The 2024 season finale of the NTT IndyCar Series will no longer be held in downtown Nashville as originally planned. Instead, the Music City Grand Prix will take place at the Nashville Superspeedway, which is located approximately 20 miles outside of the city center. This change in venue was prompted by the construction of a new Tennessee Titans football stadium, which occupies the street course that was initially designated for the race. Despite the change, the event is still scheduled to take place on September 15 and will serve as the season finale.
The Grand Prix operations team recognized the challenges that would arise due to the construction of the new Titans Stadium. The original course used for the race in previous years would need significant alterations for the 2024 event. However, with limited space for race teams and restricted access for downtown businesses and residents, it became clear that the proposed downtown course was not feasible. As a result, the decision was made to relocate the 2024 race to the Nashville Superspeedway. This decision does not affect the positive relationship between the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix and the Tennessee Titans, as both parties remain supportive of each other. Discussions will continue with the team’s management and the City of Nashville to determine the appropriate time to return to the streets of downtown.
Nashville Superspeedway has a history of hosting IndyCar races, with eight contests taking place between 2001 and 2008. However, the track has not been utilized by IndyCar since then. In 2012, the track temporarily closed due to low ticket sales and ceased hosting lower-tier NASCAR events. It wasn’t until 2021 that the track reopened, hosting NASCAR cup races for the past three years. The return of IndyCar to the Nashville Superspeedway is anticipated, but the duration of its presence on the calendar remains uncertain. The ultimate goal is to bring the Music City Grand Prix back to the streets of downtown Nashville once logistical considerations permit.
