In an unexpected turn of events, the Prima Pramac Racing team, reigning teams’ champion in MotoGP, chose the Bahrain International Circuit as the venue to unveil their 2024 Ducati Desmosedici GP bikes. This took place just before the Formula 1 Bahrain Grand Prix, even though MotoGP does not race on this track. While the attention was initially drawn to the team’s new black, red, and purple livery, many were also curious as to why F1 was dedicating time and space to launch a team from a rival championship.
This decision can be attributed to an existing partnership between Pramac and F1, which has been ongoing for several seasons. The collaboration first caught attention when an F1 logo appeared on the seat unit of the Pramac-run Ducatis a couple of years ago. This logo was introduced following a friendship between Pramac owner Paolo Campinoti and F1 boss Stefano Domenicali, who had recently taken charge of F1. Both parties aimed to showcase their respective sports and attract more fans to both MotoGP and F1.
Aside from strengthening this partnership, the MotoGP and Pramac teams benefit from the opportunity to present themselves on a larger stage. By unveiling their bikes in front of the F1 media and other attendees, they add a touch of glamour that is sometimes absent in the world of motorcycle racing. While this move may not revolutionize their marketing efforts, it provides a small boost to the team. This year, Pramac will be fielding Jorge Martin, the runner-up of 2023, and Franco Morbidelli, the runner-up of 2020, in the upcoming MotoGP season, which kicks off next weekend at Lusail.
