Luton Town defender Teden Mengi has recently shared his experience of facing the most challenging opponent he has encountered in the Premier League.
When asked about his toughest rival in the Premier League thus far, Mengi identified Aston Villa’s winger Moussa Diaby. Mengi explained that while many would have expected him to choose Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah as his most difficult opponent, it was actually Diaby who posed numerous difficulties for him during their encounter at Villa Park earlier this season.
“(My most challenging opponent) is Diaby, from Aston Villa,” Mengi revealed to The Times.
“Although you might assume I would have mentioned a player from Liverpool, Diaby caused me a great deal of trouble at Villa Park.”
Diaby, who joined Aston Villa for a substantial fee of approximately £51 million at the beginning of the season, has not been performing at his best. He has only managed to score one goal in his last 14 appearances for the Premier League club and has struggled to secure a consistent starting position.
Nevertheless, Diaby’s performance against Luton, particularly against Mengi, was impressive. It remains to be seen if he can regain his peak form in the upcoming weeks.
Aston Villa is determined to secure qualification for European competitions and will rely on their key players to be in top form.
