Former Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher Trevor Bauer may be considering a comeback to the major leagues. The recipient of the Cy Young award made a plea to MLB teams on social media this week, offering them a chance to sign him with low risk and high potential rewards.
Bauer has been absent from the league since 2021 due to various legal battles that resulted in a lengthy suspension. Now that some of those issues have been resolved, he may have his sights set on the future.
During the 2021 season, Bauer faced allegations of sexual assault while playing for the Dodgers. Despite denying the accusations and maintaining his innocence, he received a two-year suspension from MLB.
The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office chose not to pursue charges against Bauer in the case, and his suspension was eventually lifted. However, he remained unable to play after being released by the Dodgers.
Given everything that has happened over the past two years, many are left wondering if Bauer will ever return to MLB.
He is now presenting his case to teams, urging them to consider him.
Blake Snell is poised to secure a lucrative multi-year contract worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and rightfully so. He deserves it. In response to a social media post by Gary Sheffield, Jr. highlighting the advantages of a big-league team taking a chance on a player, Bauer expressed his thoughts.
“Bauer wrote, “Blake Snell is poised to secure a lucrative multi-year contract worth hundreds of millions of dollars, and rightfully so. He deserves it. However, for teams unwilling to commit to multi-year deals, invest hundreds of millions of dollars, or trade away top prospects for a Cy Young award winner, they have the option to sign me for the league minimum salary and incur no additional costs compared to what they would have to pay for that roster spot anyway. It’s just another alternative for teams that aspire to win without breaking the bank.”
Could this be the perfect opportunity for a team to acquire a proven pitcher at a low cost? It’s a possibility worth considering.
Recently, Trevor Bauer has been playing in Japan, experiencing both successes and setbacks in Nippon Professional Baseball. Despite it all, he remains steadfast in his belief that he is one of the best pitchers in the world.
Bauer clearly believes he deserves another chance, and some of his former Dodger teammates have voiced their support for him.
In 2020, Bauer received the Cy Young award after leading MLB in earned run average (ERA) during a shortened COVID-impacted season. Throughout his ten-year career in the major leagues, he achieved an overall record of 83 wins and 69 losses, playing for the Diamondbacks, Guardians, Reds, and Dodgers.
