UFC middleweight Sedriques Dumas, a 28-year-old fighter, was taken into custody early Tuesday morning after a woman reported him to the authorities, resulting in a confrontation with law enforcement in Escambia County, Florida.
According to records from the Escambia County jail, Dumas has been charged with felony battery. He is currently being held without bail and is set to appear in court on March 5.
The initial report of Dumas’ arrest was first published by TMZ.
During the incident, Dumas livestreamed his interaction with two officers from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office on Facebook. The video depicted Dumas appearing agitated as he was questioned by the officers. While the officers stated that they were responding to a call regarding a disturbance caused by Dumas, he claimed in the video that he was simply walking down the street to release some pent-up frustration.
Dumas vehemently denied any wrongdoing and asserted that he and the woman, who had accused him of being her boyfriend, were no longer together.
Online records indicate that Dumas has a lengthy history of legal issues in Escambia County, having been arrested a total of 12 times since 2014.
Dumas, who holds a professional record of 9 wins and 1 loss, has competed in the UFC three times, winning two of his bouts. He earned a contract with the organization through Dana White’s Contender Series in 2022. Most recently, Dumas secured a unanimous decision victory over Abu Azaitar at UFC 294 in October.
