The first race of the 2024 Formula One Academy season took place in Saudi Arabia. F1 Academy, a race series supported by Formula One, kicked off its season alongside F1 as a Support Race. Drivers from all ten F1 teams participated in the race, and it was a driver from the Mercedes Academy who emerged victorious. She won both races of the weekend, making it a perfect start to the season. However, there was a moment of confusion as she mistakenly continued driving after the race had finished. The incident resulted in the race being red flagged.
Doriane Pin, the race winner, crossed the finish line twice without realizing the race was over. The stewards may review the incident and consider issuing a penalty, as this mistake could have serious consequences. In the past, the FIA has imposed severe penalties, including grid penalties. As of now, no decision regarding a penalty has been made.
Abbi Pulling, driving for Rodin Motorsport, showed strong performance throughout the race but couldn’t match Pin’s pace. She had to settle for second place, with Weug finishing third and Marti in fourth. Pulling, who is gaining points, will be motivated to challenge Pin for the championship title. The upcoming race in Spain will be an interesting one to watch, as it will determine which racing team comes out on top.
