Verstappen’s expressed sentiments regarding a potential future drive for Ferrari simply demonstrate that every Formula 1 driver, at some point in their career, whether it be at the beginning, middle, or end, desires to compete for Ferrari. Hamilton, on the other hand, falls into the latter category.
At present, Verstappen is experiencing a period of dominance with Red Bull, already securing his third F1 Title and aiming for a fourth in 2024. Therefore, any speculation about a move to another team remains uncertain, as the future holds endless possibilities.
During an interview with Motorsport.com, when asked about the possibility of joining Ferrari, Verstappen stated, “I don’t mean to be disrespectful or anything. I hold Ferrari in high regard, but I am extremely content with my current situation. I feel comfortable in my current environment, so I have no intention of making a change.” He emphasized, “However, in life, I have learned to never say never. But for now, it’s not even a thought in my mind.” Verstappen also expressed his desire to pursue other endeavors beyond Formula 1.
In addition to his previous comments about Hamilton’s final season with Mercedes being awkward, Verstappen further discussed the Briton’s potential move to Ferrari. Verstappen remarked, “Ultimately, if someone like Lewis, who has achieved so much, wants to drive for Ferrari and it’s his dream and goal, we can’t fully understand the discussions that have taken place between Mercedes and Ferrari, the promises made, and their expectations… So, from our perspective, we can’t provide an honest assessment of why he made that decision.” Verstappen concluded, “If he’s happy with the move, then he should go for it. It would certainly be a cool sight. And of course, I wish them success, although it’s impossible to predict the outcome at this moment.”
Verstappen is set to embark on his ninth season with Red Bull in 2024, while Hamilton begins his twelfth and final season with Mercedes.
