The Ford teams in the 2024 NASCAR Cup Season have had a tough time, going winless in 28 races before the Kansas event. They came extremely close to a victory on Sunday, but luck was not on their side as they lost the Cup race to Hendrick Motorsports by a mere 0.001 second. This extends their winless streak to 30 races.
During the final stages of the race, Chris Buescher found himself in a fierce battle with Kyle Larson. Despite multiple cautions and wrecks, the duo managed to stay in contention for the win. After several failed attempts to pass the No. 17 Ford, the No. 5 Chevy made an aggressive move by bumping into it, killing its momentum and ultimately securing the victory.
Adding to the disappointment, it was initially believed that Buescher had won the race, leading to celebrations by the team. However, NASCAR later announced Larson as the winner after reviewing the race. In a post-race interview, Buescher expressed his speechlessness and disappointment over the loss.
Despite the disappointment, there are some positives for Chris Buescher and his RFK crew. They finally found the competitive edge they had been seeking for a long time and were able to contend for the win with a solid strategy. Buescher also acknowledged that giving too much space to Larson at the end may have contributed to his loss.
RFK Racing appears to have found the right balance with their new Ford, which they have been working on for a while. They will be hoping that their second-place finish gives them the confidence to compete for more wins in the future. If they can maintain this form, it won’t be long before Chris Buescher returns to victory lane.
