Dale Jr. has always been a fervent advocate of local circuit racing. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (In Circle) and Richmond Track (Via IMAGO) Richmond held the Toyota Owners 400 last Sunday and aside from a few incidents and late drama, the race failed to deliver in terms of overall entertainment. Being held on Easter Sunday resulted in lower viewership compared to last year’s Bristol dirt race, which took place on the same weekend. NASCAR Hall of Famer, through his podcast, discussed the future of the track as the subpar racing continues. He highlighted that the track is at risk of losing its second race date. The Teardown podcast has already reported that Richmond’s second race may be replaced as early as 2025. Junior is frustrated at the prospect of losing another local circuit race to potentially a road course weekend. He emphasized that the stubbornness of the track authorities is to blame for this situation. The two-time Xfinity Series champion has repeatedly asked the track to resurface the pavement as they used to do in the past, but this suggestion has always been rejected. Richmond is perilously close to losing its second race date… and it may already be too late. 😬 pic.twitter.com/6ybpn0R4li The co-owner of JR Motorsports was also visibly disappointed that the race falls on Easter Sunday. He noted that this is detrimental to the sport because most families do not dedicate time to NASCAR during these holiday weekends. This would result in a decline in ticket sales and TV ratings. The words of the NASCAR legend demonstrate his profound love for local circuit racing. Junior, as well as the fans, want the sport to stay true to its origins and continue racing on local circuits instead of abandoning them. If there is a need for drastic changes to the current NASCAR system, the governing body must take that risk, as staying true to the sport’s roots is always the path to success. Discover:
