The White Sox have made an announcement regarding the re-signing of right-handed pitcher Bryan Shaw. Shaw has agreed to a minor league contract, marking his third such deal with the team in less than a year. He initially joined the Pale Hose last spring and then secured a new contract in April after failing to make the Opening Day roster. Throughout the season, Shaw was twice selected to Chicago’s active roster, with a designation for assignment and a subsequent outright assignment in between.
On the field, Shaw performed admirably, delivering a 4.14 ERA across 45 2/3 innings out of the White Sox bullpen. This represented a significant improvement from his 5.40 ERA during his time with the Guardians in 2022. Shaw managed to limit hard contact and significantly reduce his home run rate. However, it is worth noting that his ground ball rate of 40.2% was the lowest he has recorded in his 13-year MLB career. This raised some concerns, considering Shaw’s relatively low strikeout rate of only 20.9%. Nonetheless, he finished the season strongly, boasting an impressive 0.92 ERA over his last 18 appearances spanning 19 2/3 innings.
Stay tuned for further updates.
