Arsenal have reached an agreement with Brazilian club Fluminense for Marquinhos, who will return to his home country on loan until January 2025. The Standard reports that the 20-year-old is heading back to Brazil in order to gain more playing time, and Fluminense has paid a loan fee to Arsenal for his services. Corinthians were also interested in Marquinhos, but were unable to outbid Fluminense, who have also agreed to include a buy option in the loan contract. This means that if certain conditions are met, the winger will permanently move to Brazil.
Since joining Arsenal from Sao Paulo in the summer of 2022 for £3 million, Marquinhos has failed to make a significant impact. He has not played for the North London club since January 2023, only appearing in six matches under Mikel Arteta and contributing one goal and one assist. Earlier this season, Marquinhos was on loan in France with Nantes, but Arsenal chose to recall him after he made just seven first-team appearances and provided only one assist. Reading between the lines, it appears that Arteta is not particularly interested in the player, as the inclusion of a buy option suggests. Currently, the 20-year-old’s career is uncertain, and a return to Brazil may be just what he needs to regain stability.
