If you have a fascination for uncovering forgotten treasures, then you’ll find any “Will it run?” video entertaining. However, “Jennings Motor sports” on YouTube takes it to the next level. They specialize in reviving vehicles that have been sitting idle for over half a century. The dump truck featured in this video has been off the road for an astonishing 75 years.
It’s incredible to think that after 75 years of exposure to the elements, this Model AA dump truck is still intact. Most vehicles would have succumbed to rust and decay long ago. Unfortunately, during its time in a scrapyard for 30 years, the truck lost many essential parts, including the front clip and wheels. At first glance, this 93-year-old Ford appears destined for the junkyard.
But our host loves a challenge and saw potential in this neglected truck. He embarked on a mission to give it a second chance at life. The biggest obstacle was the old four-cylinder engine, which had been flooded with mud and water. Against all odds, our host managed to bring it back to life. However, it was no easy feat.
To start, he used traditional methods to heat the nearly frozen oil pan. Unfortunately, things took a dangerous turn when he added acetone and transmission fluid, resulting in a fire. While it made for an entertaining spectacle, it’s important to note that this is not something to try at home, especially for younger viewers.
After the fire was extinguished and the engine cooled down, our host proceeded to partially disassemble and remove it. This step was necessary to replace some transmission components. Eventually, the inline-four engine found its way back into the bay, with most of its ancillaries in place. Miraculously, it agreed to fire up and even idled on its own. It’s truly impressive that this unit can run after sitting idle for 75 years.
Whether this Model AA will ever hit the road again remains uncertain. However, it’s a relief to know that it has been saved from the crusher. These trucks are becoming increasingly rare to find in today’s world.
Ford introduced the Model AA in 1927 as a successor to the Model TT. As expected, the truck shared many components with the Model A car. It was produced in various body styles until 1932. The only engine option available was Ford’s iconic 201-cubic-inch (3.3-liter) four-cylinder. But enough history for today.
