Baseball America presents its 2024 Preseason All-America high school teams, as voted on by the scouting departments of major league organizations. The teams are led by only two unanimous first-team members: Cade Arrambide, a catcher from Texas, and Cam Caminiti, a lefthander. There are also two underclassmen who make these lists, including Ethan Holliday, a shortstop from Oklahoma, who lands on the first team, and Dean Moss, an outfielder from Florida, who is a third-team member.
Baseball America annually surveys major league scouting directors to vote for its Preseason All-America teams, requesting that they base their selections on performance, talent, and professional potential. The BA Preseason All-America teams have been a reliable predictor of first-round draft picks in recent years. Eight of the 11 high school players selected in the top 30 picks were first-team All-Americans from the 2023 preseason teams.
Derek Curiel, an outfielder from the second team, is the only player from the 2023 preseason All-America teams to retain his spot. He was the only underclassman to secure a spot last year and was named to the third team. A California shortstop and righthander was named a second-team All-American as a middle infielder and a third-team All-American as a pitcher.
Baseball America received votes from 13 organizations.
First Team
Cade Arrambide, Catcher, Tomball (Texas) HS
Arrambide was the only unanimous first-team hitter and is considered the top catching prospect in high school. He possesses standout tools and had an impressive performance in the summer and fall of 2023. His exceptional raw power and double-plus arm strength make him a formidable force in controlling the run game.
Carter Johnson, Middle Infielder, Oxford (Ala.) HS
Johnson is regarded as one of the best pure hitters in the class. His clean, direct, and fluid lefthanded swing, combined with his frame that has room for growth, make him a promising prospect. He showcased his skills at the annual East Coast Pro and has the necessary skills to excel at shortstop.
Ethan Holliday, Middle Infielder, Stillwater (Okla.) HS
It is highly unusual for an underclassman to be named a first-team All-American, especially in the highly competitive middle infield position. Holliday’s inclusion speaks to his exceptional talent and the relatively weaker class of 2024 middle infielders. As the younger brother of Jackson Holliday, he is the favorite to be the top pick in 2025.
PJ Morlando, Corner Infielder, Summerville (S.C.) HS
Morlando received votes as both an outfielder and corner infielder. He is considered the top pure hitter and power bat in the 2024 class. With his powerful swing, exceptional swing decisions, and advanced approach, he has the potential to be the first high school player selected in the draft.
Caleb Bonemer, Corner Infielder, Okemos (Mich.) HS
Bonemer significantly improved his draft stock last summer. His combination of speed and raw power potential, along with impressive in-game hitting, makes him one of the standout hitters in the class. He has the potential to become the highest-picked prep player from Michigan since Derek Jeter.
Slade Caldwell, Outfielder, Valley View HS, Jonesboro, Ark.
Caldwell is a dynamic player at the top of the lineup, utilizing his double-plus speed and a compact swing to produce line drives all over the field. While he may not possess exceptional power or physical projection, he is one of the most polished players in all aspects of the game.
Konnor Griffin, Outfielder, Jackson Prep, Flowood, Miss.
Griffin also received votes as a middle infielder. He possesses an enviable package of physical tools, including double-plus speed, plus arm strength, raw power, and above-average defensive potential at multiple positions. With significant upside potential and a strong hitting track record in high school, he is a promising prospect.
Dante Nori, Outfielder, Northville (Mich.) HS
Nori’s advanced age may draw criticism, but his pure hitting ability cannot be overlooked. He is one of the best runners in the class and has solid power potential. While he tends to hit line drives in games, he showcases his power during batting practice. He is also expected to be an above-average defender in center field.
Cam Caminiti, Starting Pitcher, Saguaro HS, Scottsdale, Ariz.
Originally part of the 2025 class, Caminiti reclassified for 2024 and is now considered one of the top pitchers in the class. He has the potential to be a two-way player in college, but his mid-90s fastball and impressive pitching skills have caught the attention of MLB scouts. He joins Arrambide as the only unanimous first-team member.
Levi Sterling, Starting Pitcher, Notre Dame HS, Sherman Oaks, Calif.
Sterling possesses numerous traits of a starting pitcher, including a lean and projectable frame, a low 90s fastball, and the ability to spin multiple above-average breaking balls. His control is among the best in the class, and he will only be 17 on draft day, indicating his potential for further development.
Joey Oakie, Starting Pitcher, Ankeny (Iowa) Centennial HS
Oakie has seen an increase in velocity over the past two years, now sitting in the low 90s and reaching up to 96 mph. His fastball, paired with a mid-80s slider that was voted the best in the class, makes him a formidable pitcher. His lower release point adds deception to his arsenal.
William Schmidt, Starting Pitcher, Catholic HS, Baton Rouge, La.
Schmidt is known for his exceptional curveball, which was voted the best overall breaking ball in high school. Alongside his hammer curveball, he possesses a low-90s fastball that can reach 95-96 mph. His ability to land his breaking ball despite its depth and movement is a testament to his pitching prowess.
Ryan Sloan, Starting Pitcher, York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.
Sloan is a power righthander with a physical frame and a fastball that consistently reaches the mid 90s. He possesses the traits of a workhorse starter, with a solid slider, curveball, and changeup complementing his heater.
