Volvo has decided to abandon the “Recharge” moniker that was previously used for the electric XC40 and C40 models. Starting in 2025, the XC40 Recharge will now be known as the EX40, while the C40 Recharge will be called the EC40.
This new naming strategy brings these two electric vehicles in line with the rest of Volvo’s electric lineup, which includes the seven-row EX90 and the entry-level EX30. Despite the name change, the EX40 and EC40 retain the same appearance as their former Recharge counterparts.
Both models offer an optional Performance package, although its availability in North America has yet to be confirmed. This package enhances power output by an additional 33 horsepower and includes special pedal mapping and a unique ‘Performance’ drive mode, allowing for the full utilization of the 435 horsepower.
In addition, the EC40 and EX40 models are now offered as Black Editions. These Black Edition variants feature an Onyx Black exterior paint color, complemented by gloss-black accents and 20-inch five-spoke wheels. Buyers can also select from black microtech or textile charcoal interiors.
