The intense rivalry between the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles has once again taken a nasty turn. Shortly after their Super Bowl defeat, an altercation unfolded on social media between an offensive lineman from the Niners and a defensive lineman from the Eagles.
Jalen Carter, a promising rookie for the Eagles, initially called out his counterpart, Jonathan Feliciano, claiming that the Niners player had disrespected Carter’s deceased teammate during a game. In response, Feliciano took to X to present his side of the story. He made serious allegations, accusing Carter of threatening to harm Feliciano and his children.
Feliciano implied that he had only mentioned Carter’s deceased teammate after the Eagles’ defensive lineman had threatened his family. Last year, following the Georgia Bulldogs’ consecutive national championship victories, Carter was involved in a car accident while racing against a Georgia football staff member. Tragically, both Carter’s former teammate and the staff member lost their lives in the crash. As a result, Willock’s family filed a $40 million lawsuit against Carter and the Georgia Athletic Association. Carter ultimately pleaded no contest to the charges and received a $1,000 fine, one year of probation, and 80 hours of community service.
Regarding Feliciano’s allegations of death threats, only Carter and the Niners offensive lineman have firsthand knowledge of what transpired during the game. However, fans did share a screenshot of Carter’s Instagram story, in which he posted a picture of Feliciano with his children and wrote, “I’m your biggest fan. I’ll catch up with you.”
Following their Super Bowl loss, the 49ers’ offensive linemen faced significant backlash on social media. Fans criticized their inability to block Chris Jones, the defensive tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs, during a crucial third-down play in overtime.
In response to the criticism, Jon Feliciano, the Niners offensive guard, indirectly blamed a tackle for the failed play. This did not sit well with Burford, who publicly called Feliciano out on X.
Feliciano later apologized to Burford, attributing his behavior to being hungover and acting poorly. Despite the apology, the ongoing exchange between the Niners players did not sit well with their already disheartened fans following the Super Bowl loss.
