Kansas City police officers have disclosed that Lyndell Mays, one of the adult males facing murder charges following the shooting incident at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade last week, confessed to firing the initial shots. Court documents obtained by TMZ indicate that Mays admitted his involvement in the incident on February 16, just two days after the mass shooting occurred. Mays was interviewed by a detective at a nearby hospital, where he was receiving treatment for gunshot wounds. The documents state that initially, Mays denied shooting at anyone after the disagreement. However, after being informed about the existence of surveillance video footage, he changed his statement.
According to the police, Mays claimed that the other group threatened him, saying, “I’m going to get you,” which he interpreted as a death threat. He then recalled firing his weapon “maybe two times,” but hesitated due to the presence of children. Mays allegedly did not have a specific target in mind when shooting because he believed that anyone in the vicinity could be armed.
When asked about his motive for approaching the group in the first place, Mays simply responded, “Stupid, man.” He admitted to pulling out his gun and shooting, acknowledging that his actions were foolish and regrettable.
Dominic Miller, the other individual charged in connection with the shooting, initially claimed that he ran away upon hearing gunshots. However, when confronted with surveillance footage, he confessed to firing his own handgun during the altercation.
According to the documents, Miller stated that after hearing the gunshots, he saw a black male with dreadlocks carrying a black handgun and shooting at him. In response, Miller fired back with his own firearm. He estimated firing 4-5 shots but was unsure if he hit his intended target.
On Tuesday, Jackson County prosecutor Jean Peters Baker revealed that Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a local radio host who tragically lost her life due to gunshot wounds during the parade, was fatally shot by a bullet from Miller’s gun.
