Toyota achieved impressive sales numbers in the United States last year, selling over 2.24 million vehicles. This success solidified its position as the top-selling automaker worldwide, with a total of 11 million vehicles sold compared to Volkswagen AG’s 9 million. Remarkably, Toyota and Lexus alone surpassed the combined sales of VW AG’s numerous brands and subsidiaries.
While electric vehicles (EVs) played a role in Toyota’s success, the majority of their sales came from internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid vehicles. The fifth-generation Prius, in particular, contributed significantly to these sales figures. Praised by both customers and critics, the Prius recently won the prestigious North American Car of the Year award and is a contender for the World Car of the Year accolade. In the American market, the 2024 Prius is available in LE, XLE, and Limited trims, with or without all-wheel drive, starting at $28,000. The plug-in hybrid Prius Prime, offering 220 horsepower, is also available in SE, XSE, or XSE Premium grades starting at $33,000. However, the Prius is only available in the traditional five-door liftback body style.
Nevertheless, not everyone finds the limited body style of the Prius to be a drawback. Vishnu Suresh, a self-taught concept artist known as zephyr_designz on social media, has taken it upon himself to reimagine the Toyota Hybrid Reborn Prius. Suresh’s journey began several months ago when he first presented his vision of a highly-tuned hybrid Prius.
The resulting Prius concept captivated audiences with its striking lime green, white, and Black Edition variations. Suresh even created a Taxi version in vibrant yellow. These designs all shared common features, including a lowered stance, aftermarket black wheels in various designs, extensive aerodynamic enhancements, exposed carbon fiber elements, and an impressive widebody kit. This is not the first time Suresh has transformed the Prius into a three-door model.
However, his latest creation, the Shooting Brake 3D Concept, represents the pinnacle of his work. Noticeable refinements, such as the new hexagonal exhaust tips and the stylish wing on the liftgate, demonstrate Suresh’s dedication to perfection. He envisions this concept as a production-ready model, complete with GR logos. If Toyota were to bring this design to life, it could join the ranks of the GR Yaris as a three-door model. This electrified alternative could find success in the American market, offering consumers a unique option without overlapping with the five-door GR Corolla.
