Christian Horner’s tenure at Red Bull seems to be coming to a close, as an investigation into misconduct unfolds.
Adrian Newey, Red Bull’s chief technical officer, has reportedly chosen to remain with the team amidst the uncertainty surrounding the future of team principal Christian Horner.
Horner is facing allegations of inappropriate conduct from a female employee, which has prompted an internal investigation by Red Bull.
The 50-year-old is expected to attend a meeting on Friday, where he will be questioned by an external investigator.
After the meeting, the investigator will present their findings and recommendations to Red Bull the following week.
The team is keen on resolving the matter before their season launch event on February 15. Horner has denied the accusations.
There has been speculation about the futures of both Horner and Newey, who have worked closely together at Red Bull for almost twenty years.
Reports suggest that their contracts may include a provision allowing one to leave if the other does.
However, according to German publication F1 insider, Newey has informed Red Bull of his intention to remain loyal, even if Horner departs from the team.
Newey had previously shown interest in joining Ferrari, especially after the announcement of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton joining the team next year.
Nonetheless, the 65-year-old stated last year that he was unlikely to leave Red Bull anytime soon.
“I have had discussions with Ferrari in the past. I have been very tempted because it is such a legendary brand,” he told Sky Italy.
“The most tempting time would have been around 1993 and 1997 when I moved from Williams to McLaren.
“At that time, my children were young, and I was unsure how they would adjust to an Italian school. If I were to join a team based in Italy, I would have to relocate with my family.
“Now, at Red Bull, I have been involved since the beginning.
Lewis Hamilton suffers a major setback with Mercedes after signing a contract with Ferrari.
“Changing teams always requires a significant amount of effort to reestablish oneself and adapt to new work practices, so honestly, if I were twenty years younger, perhaps.”
Newey reportedly signed a new contract with Red Bull last season.
While a team spokesperson declined to comment on contracts, they confirmed that “Adrian will be with us for a considerable period.”
