Matchroom promoter Frank Smith has confirmed that former four-division world champion Adrien Broner is among the possibilities for Conor Benn’s upcoming bout. Despite Smith’s acknowledgment that Broner is the least likely option for Benn, there is still a chance that the fight could materialize. Promoter Eddie Hearn would need to make a substantial offer to entice Tank into accepting a match against Benn.
Facing off against the renowned Broner would serve as a means to enhance Conor Benn’s popularity in the United States before pitting him against one of the popular American fighters such as Tank Davis, Devin Haney, or Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.
Broner: An Experienced but Risky Choice
“It’s possible, but it would be the most improbable one. Adrien Broner frequently makes challenges. I believe that is the least realistic option. However, everyone is calling out Conor Benn,” stated Frank Smith of Matchroom Boxing in an interview with Boxing Social regarding the potential opponents for welterweight contender Conor Benn’s next fight.
This poses a significant risk for Benn since he encountered numerous difficulties against the relatively unknown fighter Peter Dobson, whom Hearn matched him against in his most recent bout. Dobson is not considered a world-class contender.
Although Broner may not be the fighter he once was a decade ago, he remains superior to Dobson and would pose a threat to Benn based on his performance in that particular fight.
Benn’s Popularity on the Rise
“Everyone is vying for his attention. There is a major fight waiting for Conor Benn, and it will be announced soon. We are fully committed to delivering the most significant fight possible for Conor Benn. He has always been eager to face the biggest names and has never shied away from any challenge.
That hasn’t changed. Our focus is on organizing a colossal fight for Conor Benn. That is our objective, and we will make it happen,” affirmed Smith.
Fans suspect that Hearn is merely using Gervonta’s name as a diversionary tactic, fully aware that securing a fight with him is highly unlikely. Hearn’s true target is Chris Eubank Jr., and he hopes to avoid excessive financial demands by creating a smokescreen with Gervonta’s name.
Eubank Jr. is the fighter that Hearn has been eagerly anticipating, believing that UK fans still desire to witness a showdown between him and Benn. However, given the failed attempts to make the fight happen in 2022, it appears that the fight may have lost its appeal.
