Ajla Tomljanovic, an Australian tennis player, will be absent from the tennis scene for two months following a surgical procedure. The 30-year-old athlete shared this update on her Instagram account, revealing that she recently underwent surgery to remove non-cancerous growths from her uterus. As a result, she will be unable to participate in any competitions for at least a few weeks. Tomljanovic made this announcement on Instagram, accompanied by a photograph of herself smiling while lying in a hospital bed.
This is not the first time that Ajla Tomljanovic has faced a setback due to injuries. In 2023, she missed a significant portion of the tennis season due to various injuries. Although she was initially selected for the Australian United Cup team that year, she was unable to compete in the tournament due to her injuries. Tomljanovic only made her return to the court at the 2023 US Open.
Unfortunately, Tomljanovic’s performance at the US Open and subsequent tournaments did not meet expectations. She was eliminated in the second round by Elena Rybakina at the US Open and experienced similar outcomes in the following two tournaments. However, she did manage to secure a title at the Mundo Tenis Open in Brazil.
Subsequently, Tomljanovic participated in the 2024 United Cup, but she struggled and lost three out of the four matches she played. She did win a match at the 2024 Australian Open but was ultimately defeated by Jelena Ostapenko. In her next tournament, the Thailand Open, the Australian player suffered a first-round exit.
Despite these defeats, Tomljanovic remained undeterred and expressed her happiness to be competing on the professional tour. However, she has now encountered a significant setback prior to the highly anticipated Indian Wells tournament. It remains to be seen how long it will take for her to make a comeback.
