Alexander Volkanovski, similar to many individuals in the MMA community, was confused to witness Henry Cejudo terminate his long-time coach, Eric Albarracin, on camera.
Recently, the UFC aired its “Countdown” program leading up to UFC 298, which showcased the typical pre-fight activities that fighters engage in. However, UFC 298 “Countdown” presented an unusual twist when Cejudo chose to inform Albarracin that he would not be part of the team for the Feb. 17 bout against Merab Dvalishvili.
This decision by Cejudo to let go of Albarracin in such a public manner left many individuals displeased, including Volkanovski.
“What? Is this genuine or some sort of odd marketing or promotional tactic?” Volkanovski expressed to The MacLife. “I simply cannot comprehend it. Doing it in front of the cameras just appears incredibly strange.”
Volkanovski was so taken aback by Cejudo’s actions that he questions whether the entire ordeal was simply a publicity stunt. However, if it is indeed real, the UFC featherweight champion confesses to losing respect for Cejudo.
“I believed he appeared to be taking it seriously, but I just don’t understand it,” Volkanovski stated. “If you’re doing that and thinking, ‘This will make great content, and I’m going to capitalize on it,’ and then proceeding to do so, you are an absolute disgrace.
“Henry, if this is genuine, you are a despicable individual, allow me to make that clear. It’s mind-boggling to me. That’s why I don’t believe it. I don’t think he is that detestable to do such a thing. I truly don’t.
“I can’t comprehend it. I genuinely can’t. It’s absurd to me. Perhaps he is solely focused on himself, so self-absorbed that he disregards those around him. Maybe, I don’t know.”
