The Milwaukee Bucks, currently with a record of 33-18 this season, find themselves in the 3rd position in the Eastern Conference as they approach the all-star break. Earlier in the season, the team made a coaching change, replacing Adrian Griffin with Doc Rivers after a strong start of 30-13. Throughout the season, the Bucks have been striving to establish a cohesive team identity in preparation for the postseason. Their aim is to revive a winning culture in Milwaukee.
During their recent game against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night, the Bucks encountered a setback. In the first quarter, Khris Middleton was not given sufficient space to land by Kevin Durant during a shot attempt. As a result, Middleton sprained his ankle upon landing on Durant’s foot. Despite his efforts to continue playing, Middleton was forced to leave the game before the first quarter concluded. It is possible that he will miss some playing time for the Bucks due to this injury.
Khris Middleton, who has played and started in 43 out of Milwaukee’s 51 games so far in the 2023-24 season, has been contributing an average of 14.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. Unfortunately, it appears that Middleton will have to take a break following the ankle injury he sustained on Tuesday. The injury could have been avoided if Durant had provided Middleton with the necessary landing space after his shot attempt.
Following the loss to the Phoenix Suns, head coach Doc Rivers expressed the difficulties of starting the game without Damian Lillard and Brook Lopez. Adding Middleton’s absence to the mix was a significant blow for the Bucks. Rivers acknowledged that at some point during the game, his team would struggle to keep up with Phoenix’s scoring. Nevertheless, he commended his team’s defensive performance considering the players who were on the court. Fortunately, x-rays revealed no fractures for Middleton. However, he will still require a walking boot and crutches for support after the game.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, not overly concerned about Middleton’s absence, believes that his teammates can utilize the upcoming weeks to rest and recover. If all goes well, the former NBA champion anticipates Middleton’s return after the conclusion of the all-star break. This timeframe allows Middleton approximately 15-20 days to regain his health and strive for a full recovery.
