Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has made it clear that he will not tolerate any misbehavior from young players who are not participating in domestic cricket. This decision was announced by Shah after the controversy surrounding a player who has chosen not to make himself available for national selection after taking a break.
Shah attended an event in Rajkot where Saurashtra Cricket Stadium (SCA) was renamed as Niranjan Shah Stadium. Shah informed the players about this decision through phone calls and will also be sending them letters.
His strict warning applies not only to the aforementioned player, but also to other contracted and targeted players. Shah stated that if the chief selector, coach, or captain requests players to participate in red-ball cricket, they must play in the Ranji Trophy in order to be considered for the national team.
Jay Shah has supported Virat Kohli’s decision to withdraw from the five-match Test series against England, stating that it is Kohli’s right to do so for personal reasons. Kohli initially opted out of the first two Tests, citing personal reasons, but later decided to withdraw from the remaining three Tests as well.
Prior to India’s third Test against England, Shah expressed his support for the players, highlighting that Kohli had not requested personal leave in 15 years, so it is within his rights to do so.
