Alpine has announced the appointment of David Sanchez as the new Executive Technical Director for their Formula 1 team. Sanchez recently left McLaren under unexpected circumstances. McLaren had brought him in to join their technical group, but after just three months, he left due to a disagreement over his responsibilities. Taking advantage of the situation, Alpine has now recruited Sanchez to oversee their own revised technical structure. This decision comes in response to the team’s poor start to the season. Sanchez will be responsible for supervising the Performance, Engineering, and Aerodynamics departments, reporting directly to team boss Bruno Famin. Famin expressed his excitement about welcoming Sanchez back to Enstone, where he began his career in 2005. This appointment is crucial for optimizing the team’s performance and focusing on areas that need improvement. The team acknowledges that their car’s performance and development have not met their expectations, and they are determined to achieve success with the help of Sanchez. The team’s previous Technical Director, Matt Harman, and Aerodynamicist, Dirk de Beer, both resigned after the first race of the season in Bahrain. Alpine’s decision to revamp their car concept for 2024 has resulted in a car that is overweight and uncompetitive, failing to score any points so far. Sanchez, who previously worked with the team when it was known as Renault, aims to help Alpine climb higher up the grid. He is excited about the challenge and is motivated to improve the team’s on-track performance. Sanchez is eager to work with the technical teams at Enstone-Viry to bring success back to the team.
