Alpine has unveiled a “daring” and “fresh” A524 as it aims to enhance its performance in the Formula 1 constructors’ championship after a disappointing sixth-place finish last season. Alongside the new car, Alpine also presented the Alpine A424 hypercar for the World Endurance Championship. The Formula 1 car features a stripped-back livery, showcasing extensive carbon fiber with blue accents and an alternate option with pink highlights.
Apart from the striking visual changes, Alpine has made significant modifications to the physical car itself. According to technical director Matt Harmon, only the steering wheel remains the same compared to the previous model in 2023. Harmon explained that the team recognized the shortcomings of the A523 and embarked on a comprehensive redesign process, starting as early as week 45 of 2022 and intensifying after the initial races of 2023.
“We decided to take a bold approach and create an entirely new car. We scrutinized every aspect of the vehicle to ensure no detail was overlooked. Our goal was to develop a car with the potential to excel throughout the year. While we reached a plateau with the A523, I believe this car has the potential to break through that barrier,” Harmon stated.
Alpine has adopted an aggressive strategy and plans to continuously upgrade the car, acknowledging that there is still untapped potential. The team will assess its progress during the Bahrain test but remains committed to extracting maximum performance from the vehicle. Team principal Bruno Famin attributes this new approach to the frustrations of the previous season, where Alpine finished a distant sixth in the championship standings.
“We conducted a thorough self-evaluation and identified the challenges we faced. We then focused on finding solutions. We are now filled with determination and energy. By the end of 2023, we had already made significant improvements, and our aim is to extend those advancements throughout the entire team,” Famin explained.
Since assuming the role of team principal in mid-2023, Famin has prioritized elevating the performance of the track team. While acknowledging the team’s progress, he emphasizes the need for improvement across all areas. As team principal and VP of Alpine Motorsports, Famin is committed to achieving this goal.
