Bleacher Report’s Ryan Fowler has revealed that the Pittsburgh Steelers have developed a strong interest in Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper. While most mock drafts have predicted the Steelers selecting an offensive lineman or cornerback, it appears that targeting an inside linebacker is not out of the question. Fowler reports that the Steelers “love” Cooper, who is widely regarded as the top linebacker in his class.
Cooper recently met with all 32 teams at the Shrine and it was the Pittsburgh Steelers who stood out among the rest. Mike Tomlin’s staff had multiple meetings with Cooper and they have reportedly been impressed with his game. There is a strong possibility that he could be the top linebacker in this year’s class.
In the 2023 season, Cooper showcased his skills with 8 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, and 94 tackles for Texas A&M. He also contributed with 2 pass defenses, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery. Both ESPN and Pro Football Focus have ranked Cooper as the top inside linebacker in the 2024 class, while Bleacher Report places him at No. 2 in his position.
