Audi has a lot of new offerings on the horizon, including electric Avant models and a large Q9 SUV that will compete with the BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS. Interestingly, the Q9 will take inspiration from the split-headlight design of the X7, departing from Audi’s traditional styling seen in the recently updated Q7.
This signals a change for Audi, as the company is also planning to introduce more unique designs, similar to BMW’s distinctive styling. One example is the upcoming third-generation Q3, which is rumored to be based on the Cupra Terramar. Both the Q3 and Cupra Terramar have been spotted undergoing winter testing near the Arctic Circle. The new Q3 is expected to launch in the United States as a 2025 or 2026 model year vehicle, competing with the BMW X1 and MINI Countryman in the premium subcompact crossover segment.
Interestingly, early digital renderings of the Q3 show a cooler and sleeker design compared to Audi’s current lineup of compact SUVs. The artist behind Larson Design has created a CGI vision of the split-headlight Audi Q3, featuring a geometric-patterned radiator grille and winged LED taillights at the rear.
In addition to its striking exterior, Audi is also focusing on revolutionizing the interior of the Q3, addressing concerns raised about the previous generation’s cabin.
The next Audi Q3 will be based on the MQB Evo platform, which it shares with the Volkswagen Tiguan and Cupra Terramar. This means the Q3 is expected to grow in size and offer a range of powertrain options, including gasoline, diesel, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid variants. The highlight could be the 1.5 TSI Evo2 plug-in hybrid, delivering 268 horsepower and a large battery pack for an impressive electric range of up to 100 km (62 miles).
