The British professional tennis player felt embarrassed as he watched an old video of himself kissing his spouse following his first ATP title win at the SAP Open in 2006.
Back in 2006, Murray had just entered the ATP and had a promising start. At the age of 18, the former top-ranked player in the world defeated the legendary player in the United States, setting up his first ATP final against another renowned player. Murray faced off against for the SAP title in San Jose.
A significant upset was brewing in the US, as Murray displayed good form against Hewitt, and with a well-executed shot, the Brit secured his first title.
Overwhelmed by the victory, Murray rushed to his partner and awkwardly kissed her. This video was shared on Instagram as a celebratory post commemorating Murray’s first title 18 years ago today. Upon watching it, the 36-year-old felt a strong sense of embarrassment and wrote an apology to his spouse.
Well, it was a comical yet accurate observation, as the Brit can be seen making a fool of himself in the video. However, his partner eventually married him a few years later in 2014, and since then, the couple has welcomed three daughters and a son into their family.
Andy Murray, a member of the “Big 4,” was once a formidable player who even put the greatest players under pressure. Exactly 18 years ago, the Brit clinched his first-ever title before going on to win many more, and he continues to strive for further success.
Now 36 years old, Murray still has skillful shots but unfortunately lacks some form. The prime Murray has faded away, and the Brit, who was once ranked number one in the world, is struggling to advance past the first round of tournaments. Since the end of October, the 36-year-old has failed to win any titles. He hasn’t won a single match in five tournaments and is in desperate need of a victory.
Murray is preparing for his first-round match at the Qatar Open, hoping to break the curse and regain some form before the important tournaments. The three-time Grand Slam champion will be playing on the center court in Qatar, with a win just within reach for Murray.
