New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson took a hard hit during an NFL game. The rumors are swirling about the potential return package the Jets could receive if they decide to trade Wilson away this offseason.
According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, he reached out to several personnel executives, scouts, and assistant coaches from other teams to gauge Wilson’s value. One assistant coach had a particularly negative response, stating, “I’d give up a two-week stay at a Best Western. I’m not a fan.”
It is widely expected that the Jets will trade Wilson in the coming weeks. General manager Joe Douglas has expressed a high probability of adding a veteran passer behind Aaron Rodgers in 2024.
After speaking with NFL insiders and experts, it seems that the consensus is that Wilson could potentially bring back a late day three draft selection. Specifically, the Jets are looking at a potential sixth or seventh-round draft choice.
Former NFL general manager Randy Mueller believes there will be a market for Wilson, although not necessarily as a starter. He predicts that several teams will inquire and kick the tires, and the Jets could potentially get a fifth-round pick for him.
One personnel executive suggested that the Jets could seek a 2025 conditional pick with incentives. For example, a fourth-rounder could be offered if Wilson plays 50% of the offensive snaps.
The challenge for the Jets in trading Wilson lies in the fact that everyone knows they want to get rid of him. This could lead teams to wait and see if the Jets eventually release him instead of giving up an asset in a trade.
“It would be highly unusual—and embarrassing—if the Jets can’t find a trading partner and simply release him,” bluntly stated Cimini. The last top-10 quarterback to be cut by the team that drafted him was Robert Griffin III in 2012.
Since 2012, there have only been three other quarterbacks taken in the first round who were released by their original teams.
According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, it is unlikely that the Jets will cut Wilson. He believes that every quarterback gets traded, and the Jets will likely explore trade options rather than releasing him.

A Wilson Trade: Will He Find a New Home?
In a stunning turn of events, rumors are swirling that quarterback Russell Wilson may be on the move. While the trade cannot be made official until March 13, there is nothing stopping the team from reaching an agreement beforehand.
The possibility of Wilson finding a new home has sparked speculation among experts. Steve Young, a former NFL player, weighed in on the matter during a recent podcast appearance. Young believes that Wilson should consider joining the Los Angeles Rams, where he can learn from quarterback Matthew Stafford and head coach Sean McVay. With their guidance, Wilson has the potential to become one of the best in the league.
However, not everyone is convinced that Wilson will be traded. ESPN’s Rich Cimini suggests that Wilson’s fate may depend on how the top end of the quarterback market settles in March. Until then, Wilson’s future remains uncertain.
Stay tuned as this story develops. Will Wilson find a new home, or will he stay with his current team, the Seattle Seahawks? Only time will tell.
