Barbora Krejcikova has revealed that it was Katerina Siniakova who made the decision to end their partnership in doubles, leaving the tennis world shocked. Krejcikova and Siniakova were a dominant force on the WTA Tour, winning seven Grand Slam titles, a WTA Finals title, and performing well at the Tokyo Olympics. However, it was announced after the 2023 season that they would no longer continue as a doubles pair in 2024.
During the recent Australian Open, Krejcikova and Siniakova faced off against each other, with Siniakova and Storm Hunter coming from behind to defeat Krejcikova and Laura Siegemund in a thrilling match. Following the match, Krejcikova and Siniakova exchanged only a cold handshake, indicating tension between them.
Despite the apparent strain in their relationship, Krejcikova has expressed her willingness to reunite with Siniakova and potentially compete together at the Paris Olympics this year. However, for that to happen, Siniakova must take the initiative and approach Krejcikova to discuss it.
“When we were discussing our split last year, the topic of competing at the Olympics came up. The decision to split was Katerina’s, not mine. I would love to play with her and participate in the Olympics together,” Krejcikova shared with The National. “So, it’s up to her to approach me and communicate her feelings. I am very open to reuniting, but the ball is in her court now.”
In 2023, Krejcikova and Siniakova began the season by winning their seventh Grand Slam doubles title at the Australian Open. Throughout the rest of the year, they also triumphed in a WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells and achieved success in San Diego.
