Italian rider Marco Bezzecchi, part of the VR46 team, has acknowledged the need to make adjustments to his riding style on the 2023 spec Ducati. He has expressed that the bike does not feel “automatic” to him, leading to a challenging start to his 2024 MotoGP season. Despite an impressive performance last season, finishing third in the Riders’ Championship, Bezzecchi decided to stick with VR46 and continue using the Desmosedici bike from the previous season. While he achieved a respectable sixth-place finish in Portimao, he has struggled to score points in the Sprints. Bezzecchi attributes this difficulty to the significant differences between the GP23 and his previous GP22 bike, particularly in terms of braking. He explains that he needs to adapt his riding style to the new bike, as it requires a different approach to braking and turning. Bezzecchi acknowledges that his instinct is to keep the brakes, but he is actively working on making the necessary changes to improve his performance. He recognizes the importance of improving his starts, as he has struggled with them throughout his MotoGP career. The challenging clutch of the Ducati bike has posed difficulties for Bezzecchi, and he admits that he has not been consistently successful with his starts. Despite starting well in Qatar, he experienced a setback in Portugal due to a wheelie at the beginning, causing him to lose acceleration and drop to the mid-pack.
